Traditional Huipil

A garment woven on the backstrap loom, unique in its fully artisanal process: from planting and harvesting cotton, to spinning and dyeing with natural pigments extracted from plants and tree bark. Its motifs reflect the cultural identity of the Amuzgo community of Oaxaca’s Costa Chica.

Amuzgo huipiles are emblematic garments worn on special occasions such as weddings, ceremonies, patronal festivities, and rituals. They embody the cultural identity of the Amuzgo people, who have fought for centuries to preserve and honor their traditions.
