SHORT HISTORY This garment, crafted entirely by hand on the backstrap loom, is unique because its creation is fully artisanal—from the planting and harvesting of cotton, to spinning and dyeing with natural pigments extracted from plants and tree bark. Its designs reflect the cultural identity of this Sierra Norte community.
These huipiles embody the worldview of the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, incorporating its rich and exuberant flora and fauna. This land is renowned for its great artisans and wind band musicians.
